About the practice

One clinician, who knows your history.

Kadavil FNP & Associates is a small practice on Wurzbach Road, in San Antonio's Medical Center district. It is led by Tessy Kadavil, DNP, FNP — a nurse practitioner with more than thirty years in healthcare.

A practice built to be small

Patients aged 8 and older are cared for here, from everyday health concerns through conditions that need managing over decades. The practice covers primary care and chronic disease management alongside four areas it has developed particular experience in: dementia care, opioid use disorder treatment, medical weight management, and hormone therapy.

Those five sit together for a reason. The people who arrive with one of them very often have another, and a practice small enough to see the same person across all of them can treat the connections rather than the separate appointments.

The office is open Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. It is not a large organization, and it is not trying to be one.

How care is approached

Four things that shape every appointment

  1. Time is clinical

An unhurried appointment is not a courtesy. Most of what matters in a diagnosis comes out of the conversation, and a conversation that is cut short produces a worse assessment.

  2. Look underneath

Conditions are evaluated together rather than separately, with attention to the factors that drive several of them at once — inflammation, metabolic health, sleep, stress, medications.

  3. Say what is actually known

What a test shows, what it does not show, and what happens next — in plain language, without being told more confidently than the evidence supports.

  4. No subject is off the table

Memory loss, opioid use disorder and weight are medical conditions. They are discussed here the way any other condition is discussed.

What you can expect as a patient

You will see the same clinician each time. Your history will be known rather than reconstructed at the start of every visit, and the reasoning behind a decision will be explained to you rather than summarized at you.

You are welcome to bring somebody with you, and for memory-related appointments it is genuinely useful to have a person present who sees you day to day.

Where something is outside what this practice should handle alone, you will be told that plainly and helped to the right place.
